Construction Commences on Townsville Residential Development
Urbex purchased the 80.27ha site in 2022, marking the development as the company’s eighth masterplanned community in the Townsville region and amassing a total current project count of 13 across the nation.
Located in the Upper Ross region of Rasmussen, 17-km from the city’s centre, the residential masterplanned community aims to offer a variety of homesites to suit the shifting housing requirements for people of all types, whether individuals, upsizers, downsizers, or families with approximately 850 dwellings on the site over an estimated 15-years.
Urbex General Manager Peter Sherrie is commited to growing Urbex’s portfolio across Australia and sees strong prospects in North Queensland.
“For over 10 years we have been deeply engaged in developing the Townsville region and thrilled to begin construction on Somers and Hervey,” Peter said.
With infrastructure projects underway in the area, including the Ring Road upgrade connecting at Beck Drive and the completed $18M Riverway Plaza upgrade, the Upper Ross region is seen as a strong growth corrider for Townsville.
“Rasmussen is an attractive location for families and individuals alike, with a strong blend of community amenities and infrastructure, the development will certainly have a positive impact to the growing community.”
North Queensland Project Director for Urbex, David Argent is thrilled to officially commence civil construction.
“Over the past year or so we have been working behind the scenes on the masterplanning and approval phase of the development,” David said.
“It is humbling to see the tremendous support from locals for the project since the announcement.”
Twenty per cent of the area, equalling approximately 16ha, will be dedicated to open spaces, including walking trails, parkland, neighbourhood playgrounds and conservation areas, combined with connectivity to surrounding community infrastructure and services in the local area.
“The development will undoubtedly bring a fresh dimension of leisurely lifestyle to the suburb, enriching local amenities, incorporating beautifully landscaped open spaces, and providing additional parklands for the community’s enjoyment.”
Situated in a central location with panoramic vistas of the encompassing mountain ranges, the development is enhanced by the presence of well-established schools, childcare facilities, and a range of sports and recreational amenities along the Ross River.
Adding to its appeal is the proximity to the newly developed Riverway Plaza, which is just a short distance away, making it easily accessible for residents.
Somers & Hevey masterplan community has now commenced construction, with registration of interest now open. For more information visit: https://somersandhervey.com.au/
